Chaos & Confusion Diptych by Rosemary Legat – Exploring painting with energy & movement while I activated my two water colour sheets with water colour crayon markings followed by a few intuitively painted layers in acrylic paint along with being very free and easy with the application of water as I applied my layers.

Acrylic paint, acrylic ink, spray paint, water colour crayons, ink pen on two 300gsm on hot pressed water colour sheets.

I worked simultaneously on both pieces.  At the time I was not sure what was to come, but I knew that I wanted to keep both pieces raw and organic.

When I picked up my paint brush again after my Christmas break I started to apply further intuitive layers.  My mind couldn’t settle which was being reflected in the two pieces I was creating.  The words chaos and chaotic kept popping into my head as I continued with my layers until a moment of clarity came when I felt a strong need to add a touch of lime green.  I then pondered what to do next……some crazy, wild, ad hoc changes brought this pair back to where I felt they needed to be.  The addition of markings in white, lime green and orangey pink completed this passionate duo.

What a journey.  The many layers create many interesting details within each piece.  These two energetic paintings are cohesive in their colour palette, design and mood therefore would look intriguing hung near each other but also work as standalone artworks in their own right.

Both pieces are 56cm (W) x 76cm (H) and signed on the bottom = diptych side by side dimensions of 112cm (W) x 75cm (H)

As they require framing my art gallery photos include pictures of how this pair could look framed and hung.

Please check dimensions, in situ images for display purposes only and may not be to scale.
