Coming from South Australia I have always loved Hans Heysen’s regal gumtree paintings. My great aunt painted in a similar vein. It was her work that I used to copy and learn from as a child.

No one seems to paint like that anymore and I felt it was time for me to revisit that great genre.

I love painting in oils and this work really couldn’t have been done any other way. It needed the rich buttery paint and texture to attain the feel and image I was after.

It is a calming artwork. Sitting, looking at it daily, as I have been doing while working on it, I have felt that calm wash over me.
