‘Coastal Bluff’ by Meg Shaw

Reduced price. Was $1250. Now $875

The painting is a contemporary landscape and a combination of many collected, mental images from my time living on the surf coast, in south-western Victoria – Wadawurrung Country (particularly, Anglesea and Aireys Inlet). It’s part of my Fissure Series of paintings that connects what is above and below the ground, as well as implying intangible themes.

The painting is mixed media (acrylic paints, charcoal and inks) on stretched canvas and is framed in Tasmanian Oak. The size is approximately 95 x 64.5. My tools are brushes, palette knives, rags and fingers/hands. The style is a semiabstract, contemporary landscape. My approach is to create layers, textures and movement. I’m also influenced by loose lines and a love of design. When working, I find I am constantly bringing out lines and bold shapes, but I soften sections by blurring and dabbing, too . . . always seeking balance.

This impression is deliberately rugged and sharp, but it’s also dream-like and even a little mysterious. The image conjures up thoughts of an ancient land, yet it’s vigorously sprouting new life, at the same time. It whispers secrets and stories, yet it’s also very much a physical environment of scrub land, eroding rock forms and oddly shaped, windblown tree canopies.

As I live in rural Tasmania now, please allow a little more time for delivery. Thank you.
