Coastal Breadth (Brough O’ Deerness, Scotland) by Shirley Dougan – This is an original artwork of a part of Orkney in Scotland

This was a nice walk to the Eastern-most part of Orkney, where the land juts out into the North Sea. You pass a lot of fabulous views to get to the end.

The peninsula of Deerness just clings on to the island, by the sand dunes there. It’s an awesome view and makes you feel alive standing there looking out to sea.

In all my artworks, Golden brand acrylic paints are my choice. I love their highly-pigmented colours.

I have used a gloss varnish (over an isolation coat, which means that the varnish can be removed without damage to the paint) to enhance the colours even more.

The sides of the canvas are painted black.
