Colour Field 20 by Prue Crome –  is a large abstract oil painting,  a bold work with the flow of orange interrupted by the charcoal. The silver element draws the focus from the centre into the peripheral paler colours.

The Colour Field series and other paintings followed on from my installation works investigating mechanisms using light and colour to shift the perception of 3D space. In these 2D works I am purposely creating a space with no ground, shadow, line or gestural mark. The titles are named as a literal statement for identifying each work and to avoid directing a specific meaning, allowing the viewer to generate their own experience or feeling rather than a thought. They could be reflections on a moment, awareness of the subtlety of colour interaction, spatial expansion or alteration through a colour intervention.

The aim for this work is to create a floating space to generate an expansive and energetic experience.

  • painting extends over edge to dissolve image into the wall behind
