Inspired by ‘The House at Rueil’ by Edward Manet, the artwork Commandant’s House is a Impressionist painting of 1800’s architecture in Tasmania.
In 1844 Commandant William Champ took over management of Port Arthur penal colony in Tasmania.
Adding new structures built by convicts to the back of his home, amongst the gardens. The rear of the house and gardens reminded the artist of Manet’s artworks of which there are two, one in portrait format and one in landscape format. Artists are often drawn to a particular scene and sometimes create more than one version.
Commandant’s House is framed in natural oak wood, ready for wall.
Comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
