Additional Information

Crucible (Bricolage construction) by Stephen Baxter is a handmade, multi-layered, and multi-fired ceramic sculpture. The piece depicts a landscape looking through 18 Carat Gold lustre lines. The lines are hand-painted over the textured surface of the spherically shaped body of the work. The crown-like top of the piece holds a selection of characters glazed with a platinum glaze. All the characters are encircled with crusty fragments of clay painted in 18-carat gold lustre. The base of the work is a Lifeline find. A bowl turned from a single piece of Cedar, attached archivally to the base of the sculpture. Crucible has a sister work (a work made previously that has similar characteristics) held in the collection of past Dean of Southern Cross University (SCU) Arts Faculty in Lismore, purchased in the 1990’s.
