Additional Information

This limited edition reduction lino print of only 11 prints by Sara Valentino is in black and grey tones with added watercolour highlights. It is a realistic depiction of the dome of St Peters Basilica in Rome as a symbol of Renaissance architectural magnificence.

As a first generation Italian Australian, I have always had strong ties to my Italian heritage and culture. As an artist, I studied art history and took particular interest in the Renaissance period, which has always been considered a period of huge cultural growth: the Sciences, Maths, humanism, architecture, the arts in general all experienced incredibly growth. This dome, for me, is a symbol of that growth. It is not so much a religious symbol (though it may be for some), but a symbol of the pinnacle of that cultural growth, florescence, as we consider the architects who had a hand in creating this incredible building: Donato Bramante and Michelangelo. And lets not even talk about what is inside this architectural magnificence.
