Influence:

My love of Pelicans stems back for many years. When I was young, my parents always took us to the beach for holidays and it seemed wherever we went, there they were. Large majestic birds with beautiful pink bills and extra long wings to carry them through the air with ease. Their comical expressions and unorthodox water landings had me captivated, so much so I started painting them in different scenarios from so many wonderful memories.

This particular piece is a favourite of mine. I wanted to capture one of these fine feathered beauties on canvas and have the attention directed solely on the subject. No background to detract the eye. This beautiful bird, so grand and proud fluffing his feathers and puffing his chest dancing on water so happy. Created mainly with a grey, black and white palette, I decided to only add a hint of colour. Specifications:

Quality acrylics/Inks used giving long lasting rich pigmentation/lustre. Designed on acid free environmentally unbleached cotton duck, triple coated with universal primer, heavy duty stretcher bars were used to reduce warping. Protective Matte Varnish applied.
