Deep Sea Life by Carol Forster

The surface decoration on this ceramic piece has been inspired by the colours, textures and patterns of underwater sea creatures and corals. Hand building techniques have been used to make the form.  Multiple firings have allowed me to create the depth of colour and pattern on the surface of the form, as each application of lustre requires a separate firing.

To create some of the raised surface textures I have collected bits of corals offered up by the sea.  On taking them back to the studio, I make moulds from them which I then use to take impressions which are applied to the form.

This is an original, non functional ceramic sculpture, high fired with stoneware glazes, and multiple fired metallic lustres including 12% gold lustre finishes.
