“Delicious Dahlia on olive or black” by PLAYlogo. Photographed in high resolution using the renowned Sony FE 90mm Macro G OSS prime lens on a bright yet hazy cloudy day just perfect for flower photography.

PLAYlogo mostly uses “straight from the camera” shots with at most minimal post-processing for optimal printing. This digitally edited image is an exception and with good cause, because this very special Dahlia photo deserved some special treatment. Background removal was performed lovingly using “manual digital” editing to feature the flower (and with more care and attention to form than so-called AI background removal can match). The image additionally employs a very subtle background layering technique that blends the petal edges into the background, so that when viewed mounted on Acrylic Float Frame it appears to have a very subtle “glow” around the flower petals. The result is a slightly cartoony look that works brilliantly with the Dahlia form.

See how the petals towards the back are slightly “out of focus” due to the chosen depth of field? That’s deliberate. This image was chosen from dozens of photos using different f-ratios. Having the petals all in focus may look good on a screen, but when you print and mount and hang it, the particular photo chosen gives it a compelling 3D look when seen from a typical viewing distance.
