Additional Information

Desert Peas is a continuum in Kathryn’s series on the iconic Flinders Ranges.  The remnants of the wildflower season were

beginning to fade but I was fortunate to see a virtual carpet of Sturt Desert Peas zigzagging their way across the sumptuous pink earth

within the gaze of the mauve undulating ranges.

Kathryn begins these landscapes with bold vertical markings and charcoal lines to create energy that she feels pulses from this ancient land.

There are so many reference dots and lines here that one can see how our indigenous people refer to them as “song lines’ across this landscape

as guiding points in walkabout.  You can see it in the patterning of the saltbushes for example or the strata lines running through the ranges.

Painted in acrylic and charcoal on canvas.
