Special ‘Mosaic’ feature of The Collins street entrance to the arcade

From a young girl working in fashion to eventually owning my own business in Melbourne’s iconic Block arcade on Collins Street Melbourne, I fell in love with the building & the stunning mosaic floor introduced by Italian artisans around 1892. Along with many rich stories of people ‘Doing the Block’  it became a very special meeting place under the glass dome roof. This art work pays homage to returned service lovers that would meet under the dome & I wanted to capture the feel of Melbourne & the arcade around that time. The special mosaic papers in the work are from original art work from a collection of stunning Italian silk scarves, ties and accessories that I produced depicting the mosaic tiles of that amazing floor during my days of operating a store in the arcade. Soft original colours with copper trim feature in the painting.

Very much a one only piece, this is a Melbourne collectors piece of art beautifully framed & ready to hang.
