‘DOING THE BLOCK’ is part of a collection of work featuring the history of Melbourne’s iconic Block arcade. From a young girl starting out in fashion to eventually owning my own store in the Block arcade, I fell in love with the building & in particular the stunning mosaic floor built by Italian artisans around 1892. When the Block arcade opened its doors it was the talk of Melbourne, a place to shop & be seen hence the phrase ‘Doing the Block’ became a regular occurrence with people coming from everywhere to ‘walk the Block’ & be seen, especially the well dressed Melburnians of the time
