Echidna by Lyn Graham

I love the woodlands with their tall eucalypts, flowering wattles and whispering casuarinas. I like the way they let in the sun and much prefer this habitat to the rainforests, which I find a little oppressive.

The Habitats > Woodlands paintings are watercolours on cotton paper. Besides using my paint brushes, I make marks with the leaves, grasses, seeds, lichen and twigs I find as I wander through the forests. This one is Echidna. It’s inspired by the echidna we would often see waddling around in the paddocks and woodlands of Bruny Island Quarantine Station. The resident echidna didn’t seem to mind if we were close by and would just keep going about its echidna-business.
