Emilio’s Caftan by Ann Needham (Joy Collection) was inspired by the textile prints of the wonderful Emilio Pucci, particularly his caftan prints from the early 1970’s. As this painting sits somewhere between figurative and total abstraction, I also like the word “caftan” because it implies a body is present, as well as relaxing, comfortable and perhaps the presence of a pool and a cocktail.
