Inspired by the beautiful Water Falls of our Gorges within Tropical Queensland in the Wet Tropics of North Australia.

I walk through a gorge called Crystal Cascades every day for my daily exercise, its an hour round trip from my home in the Rain forest up to one of the highest waterfalls and back. So it is a big part of my life, and the wet season is a particularly exciting time as the place is alive.

I didn’t know why or what I was doing when I created these 5 artworks that I call my “Falls” Series, I had ideas in my head but I was in my usual lets just experiment and see what happens zone. As these works formed I realized I was recreating something I love very much, an allusive impression of the environment around me but my own clouded misty version. I think I must  have just wanted to express and then share with others one of my favorite places on this beautiful planet.

The colors I have chosen here are reflective of the atmosphere I feel and see within the gorge during the wet season. It is magical, the mood is sometimes intense, the insects are defining, the water is flowing hard and strong, the clouds and mist in the air is so so thick, which makes it dark and sometimes eerie.  An atmosphere that makes me feel alive.

For a real proper look at this painting the video below is best as they are very three dimensional, which can be challenging to communicate by Photos alone.

Finished with a coat of Chroma Finish Varnish, which is providing a non-tacky protective coating, that also protects against mold.
