EST: Urban Abstract by Brendan Walsh – Cold Ghost

Street Abstract Urban Art mixed media Collage Painting.

This original artwork is made using Recycled Street Posters and it is directly influenced by Graffiti in City Laneways, Vintage Billboards and other weathered surfaces. The work is also inspired by my love of gestural abstraction and my obsession with using spray paint.

The collage surface was firstly built up with multiple layers of paper and then overlayed with subtle hits of Acrylic Paint, Sugar Spray Packs, Pencils, Stencils & graffiti Paint Pens.

Once I have collected the paper off the walls of Sydney streets, the chunks are then soaked and separated. The revealing coloured layers then organically influence the colour palette i will be working with, placing them together like a jigsaw puzzle.

This artwork was created on Recycled Japanese Paper in a White Frame mounted under a clear perspex sheet.

This artwork has a very textured finish created by built up layers, paint splatters and torn paper, a visual effect mimicking the look you would see in the street where this effect is created over time on Graffiti Walls & Advertising Spaces. These imperfections are part of the overall look and feel of the finished work.
