Eyes on the Prize – Okavango Delta Botswana by Steve Farrimond – I photographed this young male Lion in the Okavango Delta, Botswana.

He was part of a coalition of 5 young males, all biding their time to challenge and take over a territory.

We observed this boy resting with another member of the cohort, whilst the other three members where about a kilometer away enjoying the spoils of a successful hunt.

As we watched these two males, we noticed a giraffe and her calf heading towards us (and the lions), he also observed their slow approach and watched intently until his urge could no longer be contained. He launched into a chase that was unsuccessful but certainly created tension in our vehicle until the result was clear that mum and calf had escaped.
