Falling – Jennifer Carlson
Meditation has been an integral part of my life since my mid-thirties and both the process of making and the resulting aesthetic of my work is influenced by this desire to calm the mind and be present.
In addition to meditation other influences include vintage textiles, folk art, music, traditional stained glass and Japanese art where Sumi-e brush strokes create a simplicity of stroke – finding the raw essence of a mark.
The resulting paintings are atmospheric, layered and abstracted impressions of nature, which lend themselves to individual interpretation.
My hope is that the viewer can take a moment to breathe and be present.
