Additional Information

Field Of Tulips by Maureen Finck – Earlier this year I was commissioned to paint a field of tulips.  After doing the basic sketching, the collector decided on a different size canvas. So I had this large canvas sitting around waiting for me to make a decision on its fate.

Tulips are commonly associated with The Netherlands. However, they were originally growing wild in the valleys of the Tien Shan Mountains.

They were cultivated in Constantinople as early as 1055, but did not come to the attention of the West until the sixteenth century, when Western diplomats to the Ottoman court observed and reported on them.

They were rapidly introduced into Europe and became very popular, becoming particularly associated with the Netherlands, the major producer for world markets.
