Additional Information

Food Stories – Sara Valentino created this artist book as a nod to her heritage and the influences that have been significant in her life: Italian upbringing, marrying into a Greek family and growing up in Australia. Food was always an important part of her upbringing. Food brings people together and sharing food with family and extended family is both a tradition and a ritual. This is an artist book with 10 different images representing Italy and Italian food (espresso and spaghetti), Greece – in this case Mykonos – and Greek food (souvlaki and rice stuffed tomatoes) and Australia (a Melbourne tram) and typical Aussie food (chips and a hamburger). Colour is either printed or selectively added using watercolour.

I created a series of reduction lino prints that symbolically represent each of the locations of Italy, Greece and Australia as well as a series of reduction lino prints enhanced with watercolours to highlight specific characteristics of the chosen foods associated with each region. The top image shows the extended family together for a meal.
The book is hand made using proper book binding cloth and all the prints are created on archival paper with oil based inks.
The book can be hung for display. The closed book measures 16 x 16cm. The open book measures 42 x 85cm.

A certificate of authenticity will be supplied.
