I frequently paint various adaptations of the Australian landscape.  It can be rugged, diverse and bold; it’s colours vivid and resilient. This time I have represented a desolate, forsaken landscape.

I have laid the paint down, layer upon layer, always taking time to allow the piece to speak to me.  The final outcome sits upon the canvas where blobs of paint sprout like lichen on rock and brush strokes suggest hardy shrubs sprouting from the soil. Its fluid shapes meander over the substrate in the colours of outback. The piece suggests an ancient land enduring through time – Australia’s sprawling forsaken wilderness.

Acrylic paint on stretched canvas, sealed with coats of high gloss varnish. It is ready to hang.
