I have strong emotional attachment to the bush. As a child we were lucky enough to live near the bush, it was our playground. The aroma of eucalypts, the buzzing of insects, birdsong, the peace and blazing heat; these are what I remember as its essence. To me this feeling is the spirit of being Australian.

I always start with multiple layers of under-colour boldly placed onto the canvas. The aim is to create depth and mystery. Here I have added brush loads of muted colour to provide a rugged background; then some wild cascading water that comes after the rain, swelling the creek bed and swishing through the huge rocks. Finally, my bold Ghost Gums are placed front and center, majestic and strong.

Acrylic paint on stretched canvas, sealed with a coat of high gloss varnish. It is ready to hang.
