When I think of the moment I captured in this piece, I can still feel the sun, the light and the warmth right on my face. Meeting my family for breakfast, walking down Gregory St to the cafe I couldn’t help but be caught by way the way the sun lit up everythigng around it while providing such contrast with the buildings, trees and vehicles in front of me. The way things like the Telstra box and flags shone out in colour aginst a backdrop of shadow and neutral tones was quite astounding to me. I used very neutral tones and greys against the bright colours of the cafe strip to create imbalance and contrast, while bringing as light play into the piece through shadows and highlights as possible. I hope that warm feeling resonates with you as it did with me.
