Grow a pear by Karen Chappelow

An idiom often used to imply the person lacks courage or fortitude and obviously spelt ‘pair’.

Playing around with language and meanings keep me amused. So this led me to quotes on Pears.

“Never let a peasant know how good cheese and pears are’  a 13th century  quote with French origins.

Petrach quoted ‘ Farewell it is evening. Now come pears, cheese and wine from Crete’. This highlights the rare prestige of pears as opposed to cheese-which was commonplace. Pears were for Lords not peasants.

So typically my mind wanders to construct this piece- myself hating snobbery of any kind, loving cheese, wine and pear pairings- I arrive here a million miles away from English Idioms.
