Background Story:

This image is from the 2022 Bird Week Australia Exhibition “Change”, Where Angela explores how nature is an inherent part of our existence.

We have become separated from nature, we need to re-learn that we and all of the creatures are all part of the one earth we will ever know.

The Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree……..
Not so much for our urban Kookaburras.
A recent report was released through Griffith University using citizen scientist data to examine the prevalence and diversity of bird species across Greater Sydney, Greater Melbourne, Greater Perth and Greater Brisbane, which included the Gold Coast.
The findings were that species in decline were the Kookaburra and Galah…….. the Noisy Miner was thriving!
‘We’ have created the Noisy miner (the ultimate bully bird!) paradise in our cities. Open grasses in parks, nectar rich flowers all year round in our gardens. We have cleared old trees which are hollow rich. This impacts our larger parrot species and also Kookaburra’s who nest in tree hollows.

This Kookaburra is one of Angela’s wild visitors.
