Happy Hour by De Gillett Cox – These gorgeous little Australian parrots often get the zoomies, and I sometimes spend late afternoon watching them zoom raucously around my backyard in Wynnum, Queensland. How they avoid crashing into each other or the trees is a mystery to me, but I recognise a really good time when I see one!
Happy Hour pays homage to all the cheeky rainbow lorikeets that drink nectar from flowers fermented in the Queensland sun. Put bluntly, they’re drunk. Watching them raucously play and prance about so full of their own importance is a great joy, and I love capturing that bold posturing for permanent display inside a home.
This highly textured painting features layered textures, glazes, flowers and colours combining to capture the joys of play, flight, and sheer good times. There can be no better way of bringing the outside in than an image of these mad wee feathered folk on your wall!
