“Harvesting Memories: Picker’s Hut in the Huon Valley” encapsulates the essence of nostalgia and tranquility entrenched within the serene landscapes of the Huon Valley. This was a community input piece at a public performance. The community played a role in the development of this work.

This artwork pays homage to the historic picker’s hut, a silent witness to countless seasons of labour and bounty. The strokes and hues intertwine to depict the rustic charm and resilience of the hut amidst lush orchards, evoking a sense of deep-rooted history and enduring tradition.

The painting captures the symbiotic relationship between humanity and nature, portraying the toil and dedication of those who harvested the valley’s riches. Each brushstroke is imbued with the spirit of those who worked amidst these picturesque surroundings, harvesting fruits and cultivating connections to the land.

Through this piece, I aim to evoke a contemplative reflection on the passage of time, the legacy of labour, and the quiet beauty of a bygone era.
