Haze by Dinah Wakefield is part of my Marrakesh series focusing on the iconic colours and patterns of this ancient city in Morocco. The historical quarters of these African desert towns are a sensual experience of colour, energy and movement, with maze-like alleys winding through the marketplaces, where vendors sell traditional textiles, pottery, spices and jewellery.

I have mixed a variety of desert colours for use in these paintings: ochres, terracotta’s, pinks, and browns, plus a selection of oxide, to create the effect of moving through this unique landscape.
