I recently attended my nephew’s wedding in the UK and the inspiration behind these peony paintings was the beautiful bridal bouquet, and I can see why as in the language of flowers, the peony carries the symbolic meaning of romance, compassion, good luck, prosperity, a happy marriage, and even bashfulness. In their native China, peonies are often referred to as the “queen of flowers” .
With dramatic lighting the peonies jump out from the canvas, giving life and energy to the painting, paired with Heartfelt II they make a beautiful statement.
