Hidden Sides by Sam Askin

I completed this portrait for the 2022 Secret Sitter Project. The subject detailed two distinct sides to her life; one presented to the rest of the world, the other lying beneath the durface. This hidden side suffers anxiety, breaks down female stereotypes across different media, and communicates her inner feelings and thoughts through fantasy and artistic expression. I portrayed this conflict of the two sides to my subject through the contrast of the blue and red seen in the portait. Her pose and challenging gaze, combined with the colour contrast, perfectly reflects this turmoil that we can all often experience, and the challenge to maintain differences in internal and external expression of emotions.
