Additional Information

Holding On by Ellen McKenna – When I set out to create ‘Holding On’, I wanted to experiment with only using a palette knife. I also wanted the paint be very textured and bumpy to the touch, almost as if the shapes are coming off the canvas a little. I love working with red, so I knew I wanted this work to be a celebration of pink and red. I also enjoy working with monochromatic colour schemes and I often start with a base colour (red in this painting) and then tint it with white or shade it with black to produce a range of colours. I’ve found that works really well and in terms of colour the final piece always looks like it is cohesive because all the colours are related to the base, starting colour.

I only name my works after completion as my process is very instinctive and I’m never quite sure where the work will end up. Once I completed this work I could see figures within the work which I felt looked like a mother and child, so I gave it the title ‘Holding on’.

‘Holding On’ is an original artwork created with Acrylic Paint on Cotton Canvas, which is stretched over an internal wood frame. It has been finished with a satin varnish with UV Protection and is ready to be hung.

Thankyou so much for taking the time to view my work. I hope you find something that makes your eyes sparkle and touches your heart.
