Additional Information

The original work has sold. Limited Edition prints (100) on canvas now available in various sizes. Signed and numbered with a Certificate of Authenticity.

This work pays homage to 17th century French painter of the Rococo era, Louis Michel van Loo who I used as a springboard to create a more expressionistic piece.

His palette of soft greens and blues juxtaposed against the warm flesh tones of the figures I found appealing so from the initial idea I wanted to breathe more movement  into the composition.

I applied the use of loose brushwork, translucent layers of underpainting  to suggest these mythological figures occupy both earth and another realm.

Depicted here is Venus beckoning to Mercury and Cupid to cease studying and join her for some recreation.  If one looks closely within the painting, there are suggestions the figures are also being watched within the landscape.  This painting uses mixed media of acrylic, charcoal and oil on canvas.
