In this particular painting we look down a stairwell towards a person. Strong diagonal lines directing the viewers attention and dramatic lighting in the tradition of chiaroscuro, spotlighting the figure bellow. The figure with arms crossed is walking toward a light source out of the frame and brings to mind questions more the answers them. The composition and lighting create a almost ominous feeling.
