Jalan Jalan, go wonder by Marijke Lambregtse.

This work is much about the experience while living in a remote village in Bali. I started with the same theme of tracing my footsteps I did for my solo exhibition here in Bali at the Four Seasons Resort Art Gallery. It’s even more urgent now to reconsider what we are doing where we are going and how we can manage to help stop getting climate change worse. Of course first thing is not to travel anymore at least by plane. We decided to fly as we were staying for a long time. We walked (Jalan Jalan) everywhere, didn’t use motorbikes or cars only occasionally if we had to get groceries for the week. We got to know the local people which is really nice. Our host was the village priest, Pak Manku
Although it was nice to stay in Kelabang Moding we were confronted daily with the inability to cope with the waste. It’s really really bad apparently education hasn’t helped that much with the litter we see every day in the ricefields and plastic still gets burned on the side of the roads. There is a recycling plant in Denpasar which has been closed because of the air pollution it caused!! So it did give me a mental and physical headache which actually made me want to paint even more. I painted quite a few works which made me feel positive and hopeful as usual which I hope reflects in this work. I gave the painting a soft, colorful and positive feel by using gorgeous expressive colors as Bali is still an amazingly beautiful, fertile place with a strong culture which has survived despite everything going on in the world. Plus it gives the viewer food for thought and discussion.
As usual in my latest works there is the little guardian you can find in the work who’s been protecting me while living in Bali and symbolically will keep anyone safe who owns and gets to enjoy this work
The work will come varnished and signed at the back with a certificate of authenticity
