James by Susanne Bianchi

Another in my Venus Series. Meet James – named after James Bond, the quintessential ladies’ man, he was also admired by men. He is handsome, suave and sophisticated.

As a mental diversion between commissions and painting, I often explore what I can do with all the off-cuts from my wood projects. I usually toss these off cuts into a box as I hate to throw anything away.

I have made faces before from these pieces – so I again started assembling bits together (a bit like doing a jigsaw).  Eventually my face started to emerge. I then cut a few more pieces necessary to complete my him.

Each piece was shaped, hand painted then assembled to create this colourful and vivacious face.  When completed I securely adhered him to a backing board and made a frame to enhance him and create a bright and striking piece of art.

All the pieces are painted in acrylic paint with a final gloss coat. They are then securely adhered to a timber framed board.

With his devilish mustache and sly smile, he is sure to win your heart – look out!
