This painting is part of my Habitats > Shore series. It’s a watercolour on cotton paper.

The creatures along the shoreline fascinate me, especially the crabs and birds.

I love the birds who perch on the rocky headlands ever watchful for food and intruders.

The minute we’re on Teewah beach on the way to Double Island Point, we see the Brahminy kites, wheeling overhead and perched in trees. These are the inspiration for Kite 1.

I also love the flocks of migratory birds such as the Eastern Curlews and Bar-tailed Godwits who travel thousands of kilometres each year to be on our shores. It is shameful that we are destroying their habitats.
