“Larry Page Still Taking Care Of Business” by Yianni Johns

SOLD!  SOLD! SOLD!

In this large painting I am depicting Larry Page music producer from the 60s he produced that famous song, “Wild Thing” and produced the band the Troggs and the Kinks and Sonny and Cher. His life was music and music producing. I asked him to sit for me for the 2012 Archibald Prize so he graciously did and this 6 foot by 6 foot record cover came into being. I used the actual album cover “Taking Care of Business” as inspiration. This was Larry’s first album to break into the New York music scene. A scene that was very controlled by Mafia figures. Larry had to negotiate with the big boss to get his records into the market. As he told me all the while feeling like one of the bosses minders wanted to break his arm. So the Mafia took a shine to Larry Page and the first album “Taking Care Of Business” was released. In my painting in oil on canvas we see the young Larry on the left talking into his Dictaphone back in the 60s surrounded by secretaries doing the music business. Opposite young Larry is his contemporary Larry talking into his iPhone in the 21st century still taking care of the music business. Hence the painting “Larry Page Still Taking Care Of Business.” Unfortunately Larry passed away in the last couple of years and I have no room for the painting as much as I love it.
