I spend a lot of time photographing birds in their natural environment and this painting was inspired by the Little Egrets fishing in the local pond which is full of waterlilies.  I thought a Monet type of background would enhance the painting of the egret and give it a harmonious look.  The background is painted with many layers of transparent colours and it was finished off with thicker paint for the egret.  The painting is on a timber panel which has lightweight timber sides 4.5cm thick and which are painted white.  The overall effect is of a dramatic but peaceful scene in very harmonious colours.  The painting is finished with three coats of Archival Varnish and is ready to hang.
