“Look to the Sky” ~ Original Art and Fine art prints by Carmen Delprat.

The oil painting “Look to the Sky” emerged during the Covid lockdown restrictions. I wanted to embody a collective nostalgic yearning to reconnect with nature, our environment and local inhabitants. Living in Newcastle I feel very connected with the ocean and its wavering landscape. This painting captures simultaneously the inner world of thoughts and memories with the external physical world. I used Photoshop as a starting point to arrange my composition. I was in luck one day to take a photo of a seagull in mid-flight. I merged this image with another photo of the Ocean Baths in Newcastle. To emphasis the focal point, I incorporated a section of one of my nautical shell drawings. I adjusted the opacity in Photoshop to allow the imagery to emerge and become the compositional starting point of my painting. The nautical shell symbolised the concept of time as it reveals the past, present and future with its ratio progression. The rich colours of the oils and the zinc white paint gives a luminous glow to the work. Available also as fine art prints – A1 and A2 sizes.
