This painting was based on a photograph taken by the artist in the gardens of Port Arthur in Tasmania, Australia. These beautiful European inspired gardens surrounded the harsh penal colony which was built in the 1800s to house European convicts. In this artwork, the paint has been thickly applied to create a textured lush and sensual atmosphere.
