“Many a Fairy Foreland Set” by Kerry Inkster

Named after a line in Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem “The Brook”, where the poet talks of the beauty and power of nature, and speaks of a fairy tale world. One of the things that Kerry loves about painting is the knowledge that her paintings will live on well beyond her own existence, and that she is contributing to a future of gracing people’s walls with uplifting and beautiful art that enriches the lives of women and girls. Kerry takes inspiration from strong beautiful women from all genres and this particular image embraces the inner fairy/fairy tale culture.

As with most of Kerry’s paintings, she has painted in layers. The background uses action painting (expressionistic) techniques – pouring, dripping, splashing paint and involving my body in the painting process rather than just the paintbrush. The figure was created using contemporary art pop art techniques and stencils, and a further layer of hand painting brought the foreground and background together. Kerry’s palette is colourful and uses strong contrasts to capture a mood of strength.

Painted onto a stretched canvas it’s ready to hang and enjoy!
