Additional Information

This painting was inspired by a 2 month residency in Beijing in 2014 with Red Gate Gallery. What we see in this oil on canvas work is the emergence of new age capitalism. I did a series of what I have dubbed “Roof Word” paintings. I fell in love with the Chinese writing this one was magnificent in it’s gold reflectivity so the perspective is looking up towards the roof. The scene is the bust of Mao heralding a new cultural revolution of capitalism right out front of China’s first successful department store in Beijing. Note the new consumer on the right capturing the image of the store on her iPhone and on the left all is being protected by the Chinese army which is truly what I saw there. Amazing.
