‘Carved with memories’ by Marijke Lambregtse is an original mixed media painting on canvas inspired by my travels through Italy this year (2022) for six months. We, my partner and I, were in Umbria most of the time and loved the history, villages, surroundings, olive trees, vineyards etc but surprisingly we discovered Italian cork trees in a forest surrounding Castello di Tocchi, an ancient community of 26 people totally preserved from the outside with some renovated units inside where we stayed for two weeks in total isolation. The glow of these very orange / red tree trunks were amazing in the late afternoon and sunset, they literally took my breath away so beautiful. This painting is a mixture of all the incredible impressions and also emotions I felt while being there. I felt very connected, rooted and touched by these trees which have memories carved in them. The collages I used are from an antique poetry book I found at the local antique market. This original painting has a lot in it, it took me a long time to complete, there is always something new to discover I find in this work it’s very engaging and colorful and will lift your spirit and be a treasure to have in any-ones home.
