Monstera Chaos by Rosemary Legat

I started by selecting one of my intuitive style layered bases which felt and looked a little more chaotic than others.  Whats a little different about this base is that I didn’t start the intuitive layers with selected colours or start by layering cool over warm colours or.  I decided to use the left over paint on my palette from another project to create a two layered base.  Rather than change the colours as I progressed I kept to the same colour palette but altered the amounts of the different colours used to create a more harmonious and thoughtful piece.

Acrylic paint, acrylic ink, spray paint and collage on 300gsm mixed media paper.

I designed and created a large monstera plant inspired stencil for this piece.  My painting started to develop through multiple layers of stencilled spray painted leaves, painted accents and markings.  This was followed by apply collage pieces I created by cutting my large plant inspired stencil into smaller individual components.  Once adhered to my canvas some of this components were painted or partially painted over and different markings applied to some.

The final touch was a little warm golden glaze to town down the bright eclectic colours.

Signed on the front.

This very textured unique piece would add interest and warmth to any chosen space.

As my Monstera Chaos requires framing to hang, my photo gallery includes examples of how she could look framed and hung.
