Clouds—those mysterious floating forms in the sky—might seem like mere weather phenomena, but what if they had their own spectrum of feelings? What if each passing cloud was a story, a canvas of emotions playing out in the ever-changing atmosphere? That’s the question I dove into with my latest abstract painting, Mood Swings of a Cloud.

At first glance, you might see soft pastels gently meeting bright bursts of color—think of it as the sky’s hidden diary. The pale, almost ethereal cloud-like form floats in the center, serene yet unknowably complex, as if pondering its place in the world. But look closer! Surrounding this calm core is a whirlwind of warm oranges, blush pinks, and vibrant yellows. These hues aren’t just random—they’re the cloud’s shifting moods, moving from peaceful contemplation to moments of fiery intensity.

As I worked on this piece, I imagined the cloud’s day: serene and still in the morning, brewing with a passionate storm by afternoon, and finally dissolving into a soft, dreamy haze by dusk. The abstract shapes dance like fragments of memory—some sharp and defined, others melting into the background—just like the cloud’s moods, never fully concrete, always in motion.

With each brushstroke, I let the unpredictability of the weather take over. You’ll notice bursts of gold hinting at the sunlight that tries to peek through, while streaks of purples and blues linger in the corners, representing those moments when the cloud just feels… heavy. It’s not all stormy skies though; there’s also a playful, almost mischievous side to this cloud that shines through in splashes of bright color.

What I loved most about creating this piece was the fluidity. The way clouds never really settle into one state for long inspired me to let my brush wander freely, capturing both light and shadow. It’s a reminder that, much like the weather, our emotions are always changing.
