My Favourite Sound by Sam Askin

Synesthesia is the occurrence of senses in response to seemingly unrelated stimuli… Like hearing a picture or seeing sounds. I reckon I can just about hear this painting. I can just about feel the exact temperature of the water and the pull of it swirling around my legs as it washes in to shore.
Crashing waves are just about my favourite natural sound, so painting this work was a real experience and felt very loose and natural for me. It has a big memory connection for me too, from growing up holidaying every year on the Sunshine Coast, to now being able to bring my own family for similar holidays.
