Roger, the magnificent “alpha” or dominant male orangutan who resides in Tanjung Puting National Park, specifically in and around the jungle near the Pondok Harapan feeding station.
He is a Bornean orangutan known for his large size and charismatic presence.
Like other visitors to the park, Deb and I had the awesome experience of observing Roger on several occasions as he interacted with other orangutans during feeding times at the platform.
He clearly “owned the platform” when it came to the pecking order and what food he chose to eat, but he also showed off his nuturing side when interacting with some of the infants who were brave enough to sit next to him.
