MY INSPIRATION
This contemporary artwork is part of my ‘Symbiosis’ series. It was inspired by an idea of bringing our co-existence with nature together in a visual format, fusing the two together. During this process I was drawn to using the female form. My own experience as a Mother, Daughter, Sister, Wife and Friend has proven women to be healers, nurturers, life giving, reslient and inclusive. These are all qualities I feel our environment desperately needs to thrive and survive into the future.
A REVELATION
It became obvious to me that while my art may subconsciously elude to environmental ideas, it must not do so at the expense of adding more beauty to the world. In my own mind I knew that art could be both current and still give joy to the observer. I guess that was when I solidified my mission. I wanted to create art that was relevant with uncompromising beauty and composition. Just like the amazing women who inspire me, it must be strong in its conviction yet unwavering in its beauty qualities.
SECRETS REVEALED
So what experience would I like you the observer to have? Well, imagine walking into a room and being immediately captivated by rich colour and shapes that appear to be flowers. After a few seconds you tilt your head slightly, “is that a figure in there?” You surge closer eagerly sensing the hint of something more. The intertwining images spark your curiosity and desire for closer inspection. Standing immediately before it, your eyes begin to wander endlessly over intermingled curves and lines. The mind pieces together what it is seeing. The colour combinations make your visual senses sing. You begin to smile as you discover the line of a human curve or is it the petal of a flower? Of course at this point you realise you are way too close to take it all in. Here begins a slow deliberate retreat until the perfect vantage point is reached. The observational journey is complete. There she is – a beautiful lady nestled within nature’s majestic flowers. She knows you are now captivated and permanently under her spell. You will, consciously at first, then subconsciously, continue to glance at her every day for the rest of your life. She will return your favours by gently imprinting her own beauty and stillness into your mind. As you rush out the door, she hopes you will notice more moments like this as you are swept away into your busy day. In quiet times she will be your quiet companion while you take a moment to enjoy some peace and solitude. This is the glorious luxury of being surrounded by beautiful art.
MY WISH FOR YOU
This is the kind of art that fills my soul and enhances my space. I watched in amazement at my last exhibition as viewer after viewer had this exact experience. Their eyes lit up and their smiles spread wide as they made each private discovery for themselves. I am unable to fully express the joy in watching this unfold or my contrasting hint of longing that, as the creator, I am unable to have this experience myself. This is why I sincerely wish it for you. If you are one of those people who sees them immediately, then I hope you are able to enjoy the composition and escape into it for as long as you desire. They are after all, still a beautiful representation of our co-existence and ‘Symbiosis’ with nature.
